Travel ~ Blue & White box

Another month, another project to enter the Designs by Ryn’s Customer Creation Challenge. Not on purpose though.

I have a pile of boxes to decorate, but this one was needed asap, so when we can’t sleep we craft, right?

I started by applying one layer of gesso on the edges of the box so I could cut the panels just a tiny bit shorter to let the white shine through them.

Cracks & Specks again, yes. This time with broken china distress ink.

Stamped the images with archival ink because I wasn’t sure if I would do any distressing.

IMG_0644@ IMG_0645@ IMG_0647@

This stamp was a big failure but in paper craft we don’t have failures, right? So I just stamped the letters on a separate piece of paper and then punched them out.

Here I used Water Droplets 2 (by Designs by Ryn).

I forgot to take a picture of the previous step where I used the Floral Spirals stencil (By Designs by Ryn), then I used the The Crafter’s Workshop Texturized Stencil, Black/ White, I guess this is the name, with the homemade texture paste.

Last step was to ink the edges with chipped sapphire distress ink.

This is the final result.

In Love & Gratitude,

A box full of hair

Wow, we are already in the middle of January, talk about a quantum acceleration…

Let me start by telling you what you can’t expect from me this year. You cannot expect a weekly post, not even close to that. I don’t know yet what I’m gonna do with this space, but posting here is not a priority for me this year. I’m working on some other projects that take too much time.

I’ll still be crafting, this is one of my hobbies, and my son loves to sit with his albums, so I’m doing this for both of us. It’s a wonderful way to bond and spend quality time with him. He always amazes me with the things he can remember that I’ve long forgotten.

Now, the project. I needed a box to store both my husband’s and my son’s hair. And I wanted to keep both generations in the same box. This box is not yet permanent, but hey, it took me ten years to make a box to store my husband’s plait…

Oh, and I’m still entering this project in the Designs by Ryn’s January Customer Creation Challenge.

Here is the box I decorated for now.

I have no idea how this box ended up in my home, but no one liked the content. I dumped it in the bin so I could use the box.

SAM_7570@ SAM_7573@

After applying one (or two?) layers of gesso, I used the scoring tool to add the wood effects on all sides. Then, I could swear I had pictures of the box painted… I didn’t like it, and this project stayed in “the drying rack” until last night.

SAM_7582@ SAM_7584@

Instead of working directly on the box’s surface I prefered the panels method. So here I started with a layer of Scattered Straw distress ink, to then stamp the cracks (Cracks & Specks by Tim Holtz) with Brushed Corduroy.

I randomly stamped the panels using Vintage Photo and the Clockworks stamp set.

It was time to pull Gorgeous Grunge and Walnut Stain.

I wanted some texture, so I used the Floral Spirals (by Designs by Ryn) and the homemade texture past. On the places where the ink was still wet the colour transferred to the paste, giving it an amazing and unique look.

To finish I used Vintage Photo to ink the edges.

For the interior I used again Scattered Straw and Vintage Photo. The I used the pattern2love background stamp (by TSOL) combined with Vintage photo. I love the imperfect result.

IMG_0540@ IMG_0543@

I punched some circles and cut them to add to the corners, and as I was about to use the beer can things, I used Brushed Pewter distress stain to match them.

IMG_0546@ IMG_0547@

Inside the box, the white lines are the scored lines of the box that I didn’t distress… It’s all good.

IMG_0554@ IMG_0558@

I need to fix the closure. I’m using magnets but the box was already bended so after adding the layers of paper inside and outside I can’t get it to close… It was 3 am when I finished, so I didn’t really care. I can fix it later.

Crystal Love ~ Crystal Eggs Storage Box

I’m entering this project in the Designs by Ryn’s December Customer Creation Challenge.

It was 4 am when I finished my last panel, but I couldn’t sleep if I haven’t finished them. So today I only had to glue them down and take the pictures.

My babies needed a proper home, and this was my way to honor them.

IMG_0456@ IMG_0484@

This was how I started. An empty chocolate box, and some toilet paper rolls. I love the colour of this box, it’s just perfect to work with my forever favourite distress ink combination; seedless preserves and dusty concord, that goes wonderfully with milled lavender and shaded lilac.

I applied a layer of gesso first, then I used two layers of acrylic paint.

IMG_0279@ IMG_0391@

For the cover I used milled lavender and shaded lilac distress inks, then seedless preserves with the stencil. This was my second attempt so I got some unwanted marks from the stencil, but I also knew that all would be well at the end…

IMG_0413@ IMG_0412@

Heat embossed the “title” with white detail embossing powder.

Here I used a stamp set from Fiskars called ‘It’s all in the details’.

Since I thought about this project for the first time I knew I had to use the ‘Sea Bubbles’ stamp set by Designs by Ryn.

IMG_0424@ IMG_0433@

To finish I used the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser on the edges.

Time to work on the panels. Again, I used the ‘Sea Bubbles’ stamp set, this time I heat embossed the two opposite corners of each panel.

IMG_0396@ IMG_0398@

This stamp set is from Fiskars and it’s called ‘For the Birds’.

This is from Inkadinkado, and I can’t find any name… The number is 99120. I also used the number 99550 but forgot to take a picture.

Here I used the ‘For the Birds’ stamp set again.

And this one is from Stampin’ Up!, it’s called ‘World of Dreams’.

I used this stamp set for three of the panels, this one is from TPC Studio and it’s called ‘Playful Expressions’.

Now the ‘Sea Bubbles’ really pop! I love it! Don’t you love when what you have envisioned comes to life just the way you wanted?

Chest Trunk

Guess who’s been into the recycling bin again?

Yep! This was a cardboard box that came with some Portuguese cakes, so I saved the box, instead of buying a piece to alter. After all we are crafters, right? So, why not use what we already have?

Of course, on a side note, can someone please tell me when does one stop saving things to recycle?…

Quick notes:

  • To get that effect, I first blotted the gesso onto my surface with the tool in the picture.
  • I then added the Tim Holtz distress paint, in this case Vintage Photo.
  • Used the Vintage Valise die to get my elements to decorate the trunk, that I painted with Tarnished Brass distress paint.
  • Used some of my scraps to make the straps.
  • Attached the elements with liquid glue first (on the edges only) then added the black brads.
  • Went to the recycling bin to get those metal things from husband’s empty beer cans 😀 used Black soot distress paint to match the brads.
  • Added the heart lock charm with another brad, and the key with some burlap string.

Washi Tape Foam Board Storage (2) & Announcement

I am still organising my space, it takes time, but I’m getting there one step at the time.

Even though I have a list of things I would love to do, I really need to get this organisation thing done first. For that reason my crafting time has been very limited, but I managed to get some play time as I decorated my DIY storage container (the second foam board washi tape storage container). It’s a great way to play with my goods!

If you have been around crafting for a while, for sure you are familiar with the work of Tiffany Spaulding. She is the queen of organisation! I’m using her system to get my stuff done. Her system is not only neat but actually works! If you need help with your organisation, make sure you watch her videos, or join the Facebook group, where you can have loads of support.

Now, the announcement.

From the 14th of September 2014 my Stampin’ Up! online shop will be deactivated, and after that I will be removing the link at the bottom of every post that direct you to it. I won’t be bother to remove all links to the products from this blog as I was told that if you still click on them, you will be redirected to the general Stampin’ Up! UK store.

Right, to the work!

SAM_6840@ SAM_6843@ SAM_6835@

I stamped the word ‘Love’ from the Seasonally Scattered stamp set with clear embossing ink, using also clear embossing powder, I heat embossed it. I kept the colours and the theme from the other piece, using seedless preserves and shaded lilac distress ink. I love this combination, it reminds me of a sunset, or a sunrise.

SAM_6754@ SAM_6756@

I used the Bird Builder punch, and switch to dusty concord distress ink instead of the lilac. Then I used one of the stamps from the Cracks & Specks stamp set to add some texture to the bird, using white embossing powder and heat embossing it.

SAM_6759@ SAM_6808@

It was time to grab Elegant Eggplant Ink and sponge the branches.

Here I used the same Cracks & Specks stamp set to add interest to the cage, I fell in love with the result from the Rainbow Magick, and again, used the Elegant Eggplant Ink. Because here it’s sponged you can control the colour, or maybe because I applied gesso to the cage, the ink wasn’t so dark. I really like the shade reached.

SAM_6803@ SAM_6807@

Oh my, oh my! Zoe from the IGIRLZOE sent me a bunch of die cuts, and if that wasn’t enough she made me this huge surprise, and also gifted me with this stencil! ( And some more goods 😀  ) My head is spinning and my fingers itching to use the die cuts she sent me, but because of all this changes, I haven’t got the chance yet! However, this stencil was just screaming to be used 😀

Make sure you check her out because she is a very, very talented girl! I can’t believe she is not in the Tim Holtz’s team yet!

I made a hole, with the 1/6″ hole punch, to hang the cage to the branch with some Burlap thread.

And used liquid glue (Tombow) to adhere my pieces.

For the sides, I used the ‘Flowering Flourishes’ stamp set.

I then stamped some feathers, and die cut them. For that I used the Four Feathers Stamp Set + Feathers Framelits Dies.

SAM_6743@ SAM_6825@

White Opal Liquid Pearls for the white cage,

and, Ice Stickles for the black cage. Yep, the stamp fell from my hand straight on the paper again… But at that time, it was already 3am, I didn’t start all over again. And in the next day it didn’t look so bad.

Some close up pics.

Washi Tape Foam Board Storage (1)

I’ve started my small storage decoration with this washi tape container, made out of foam board. I really apologise for the quality of the pictures. I swear that one of these days I’ll buy a decent camera…

027@ SAM_6768@

This is how I start 🙂  After working out my measurements on a piece of paper, I mark the foam board with a pencil so I can cut it. Then, bring on the hot glue gun!

003@ 010@ 025@

Have you seen the new Autumn/Winter catalogue? When I saw this stamp set for the first time, I knew this one was a must have! I heat embossed the word love with puff white embossing powder, then distressed with seedless preserves and shaded lilac.

I then use the World of Dreams stamp set on the left, and the Four Feathers, that I bought the bundle 😉 (image on the right).

The puff white embossing powder is not like the clear one, so it got stained. I cleaned as much as I could with baby wipes… But I don’t mind the pink around. One of these days I will also start planning, so I can avoid this kind of embarrassments… Or not.

I kept using the same stamp sets, this time stamped with Elegant Eggplant Ink. I love this ink. It almost looks like black, but not quite.

For the inside I just used shaded lilac. Oh, I forgot to mention that I lined the edges of the container with… Shhh don’t tell the handyman that I stole his painters tape 😀
